Practical Handyman Course

Introduction:

This course is designed to give some basic instruction on how to take on various repair and maintenance work for buildings, either within small businesses or at home. It consists of four separate modules over 4 hours.

 

 

Tool Safety & Basics:

  • Tool Safety, including battery drills

  • Personal protection equipment (PPE)

  • Drilling holes in wood, metal, brick, tiles, hollow walls (plasterboard)

  • Types of Screws, Correct use of Wall Plugs

 

Minor Repairs:

  • Re-Hanging doors, inc screw sizes, repairing damaged hinge screw holes

  • Replacing and re-fitting door furniture (ie Handles, locks)

  • Safe use of Chisels and Mallet

 

Painting:

  • Types of paint (Water & Oil Based)

  • Application of water-based paint

  • Application of oil-based paint

  • Technique of “cutting-in”

  • Application of Spray Paint

  • Paint Brush Care and Cleaning

Electrical Safety & Maintenance:

  • Tool Safety

  • Safe working practises

  • 3-pin mains Plugs:

  • Visual inspection

  • Correct termination techniques

  • Correct Fuse ratings

  • Extension lead examination

 

Course location: Our workshop facility in South Leeds

Course Duration: 4 Hours

Cost: £180 for up to 6 delegates, £30 per additional delegate (max 2)
